TheDay (CT) - "The newsperson of the year is" KO!

A NEW ERA of network anchors commenced in September, with Katie Couric sliding
over from NBC's morning show “Today” to the “CBS Evening News.” The Big Three
are no longer Peter, Tom and Dan, but Katie, Brian (Williams, NBC) and Chuck
(Charles Gibson, ABC).

Williams has done a superb job taking over for Brokaw, but the newsperson of the
year is Keith Olbermann.

The anchor of MSBC's “Countdown” delivered a stunning “special comment” on Aug.
30, eviscerating then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He now uses Edward R.
Murrow's salutation “good night, and good luck,” just in case anyone misses who
he's trying to emulate.

Olbermann's 8 p.m. show -- a detailed look at five stories from the important to silly,
with some off-beat features thrown in -- steadily rose in the ratings. It's now within
shouting distance of Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly in some key demographics.

Nice. His only mistake there was using the word "now"--as we know, Keith has always signed off with "Good night, and good luck."
...if you don't stick up for the freedom of all opinion, eventually the wheel will turn, you'll be the minority and you'll have written the rules by which you yourself are squashed. -- Keith Olbermann

It's one of the ways some critics reveal how new they are to the wonders of Keith --
as if he had just recently burst onto the scene a newly-minted news anchor delivering
Special Comments!

I *was* pretty sure he wasn't saying "Good night and good luck" two years ago, but I just went and check a handful of transcripts from mid-2004, and yes, there it is.
