Blogging Countdown 12/12 #1: Gerbils And Ethics

Postby Trekkie » Tue Dec 12, 2006 2:03 pm

Gerbil Warning! Gerbil Warning!

Richard Gere responds to the long-circulated rumor that he once had to have a gerbil removed from his...uh...you know. According to Sylvester Stallone, Gere blames...Sylvester Stallone. (Stallone denies it.)

Paris Hilton comes to Britney Spears' defense, saying the people who challenge her parenting skills because of her "partying ethics" are irresponsible. Meanwhile, Spears is seen sucking face with one of Kevin Federline's former producers.

Michael Musto joins Keith.

Yeah right, Sly, we know you're the one who started it.

Why even bring it up in the first place?

I've lead a rather sheltered life :angel ...What's the 'Gerbil Story'? :sign1

It was one of those urban myths...someone knew someone who worked in the ER and Richard Gere came in with a gerbil up us butt. Apparently, it was a trendy gay thing at the time to put little rodents up your ass.

Joe started his show with the other oldest urban myth..that Rod Stewart had to have his stomach pumped because (ew) he swallowed too much semen...

I want to know about Raymond Burr and the glass table!

Considering the various practices those two guys reference on their shows,
I think KO & Citizen Joe were being disingenuous when they said they needed
to look it up. Yeah, right.

See, anyone who's studied psychology knows a little bit about practices in
adulthood which theoretically stem from toilet training gone horribly wrong --
which is why I'm guessing that neither of those guys really needed to
look it up. (I haven't looked it up because I want to be able to keep on
watching Perry Mason.)

Now the gerbil thing... well, I never heard about that stuff until fairly recently;
and about that I say it's a form of animal abuse for sure and needs to be
discouraged. People shouldn't enlist animals, children, or any other unwilling
participants in their little games.

Personally i would go look at http://www.snopes.com to look up anything urban legend related. Thats my favorite (and handy when getting crap email scams). I somehow think Musto was blowing smoke about the Raymond Burr one, I could be wrong.

It's getting crowded in there.

Someone asked this over at the Straight Dope, and someone else mentioned an old urban legend concerning glass tables.

Oh, Guin..I am laughing so hard I am crying..thanks for that. Talk about bathroom humor! I wonder if Mr. Burr was under or over the table. I bet he could set out quite a buffet on the table top!

That is some funny shit!

Tempered glass is strong, but I'm thinking at his size Burr might still have been
safer under the table.

I just looked at the show blog -- with all the stories tonight on Countdown, this
is the one we're talking about. And it's sure to be the story people will be talking
about tomorrow. Darn Michael Musto. :boink
